The Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church is hosting its first annual Dinner Concert on February 26th, 2011 at 6:00 pm. The event will be held at the Stafford Elementary Cafeteria (301 Harris Street, Italy) and tickets are $10. The entertainment will feature the Anointed Temple Mime Ministry.
Saturday night, February 12, a scrumptious Valentine dinner will be served at the Uptown Cafe. Consisting of brisket, sausage, potato salad, mashed potatoes, beans, macaroni and cheese, bread, tea and peach cobbler, the dinner will begin at 5:00pm.
It is no longer necessary to boil the water. Water samples have been taken to the test lab, and all results showed no signs of harmful bacteria or other microbes. All testing and the results from the testing were monitored by TCEQ.
The Texas Association of Counties is providing specialized safety training for Ellis County employees this month, utilizing a driving simulator that offers county employees a unique experience to prepare for unexpected driving situations.
Avalon’s senior class is participating in a community service project called Jeans for Teens. Jeans for Teens gives jeans to homeless teens who need them.
Central Baptist Church has cancelled all services for Wednesday, February 9th. There will be no RAs, GAs or Mission Friends also. Jeremy Beggs, Youth Minister, will open the Cornerstone for the youth that want to come tonight.
When Homer Uehlinger and Kayrene Thompson married in 1969, they had dreams like most other young couples. They wanted to continue to love each other and start a family. They hoped to spend their lives together, raise a family and then retire to enjoy their golden years.
Italy ISD will be closed today due to icy road conditions caused by the current winter storm. Classes will resume at normal time on Thursday morning, February 10.
Due to the possiblility of bad weather, the Italy High School campus will have their regularly scheduled 4th period classes today in order to serve lunch. It was a night of music at the 2011 Centex Honor Bands Concert with 15 members of the Italy High School and Junior High Bands performing at McGregor High School on January 29.
The May Uniform Election Date is set for Saturday, May 14, 2011. The ballots this year will be comprised of both city and school board elections.
The third six weeks P.A.W.S. assembly was quite a show. More and more students were receiving more and more “tiger” awards. The students were excited and growing with anticipation as each name was called hoping to hear their name called soon.
The youth of Central Baptist Church are taking orders for Krispy Kreme doughnuts that will be available on Friday, February 18th. Orders must be made by Thursday, February 17th, 3:00pm. On that Friday the doors will open at 6:50 a.m. If you want to guarantee your doughnuts, you must pre-order.
Tanya Parker, Italy High School principal, has announced that Monday, February 7, 2011 the benchmark testing schedule will be in effect. Students are to report to their 3rd period class at first bell (8:02am). All seniors who are not required to take benchmark tests will need to report to school at 11:00am.
Due to pump failure caused by winter freeze, and the lack of water pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our water system (City of Italy PWD ID # 0700028) to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.

The Masonic Lodge of Italy will be selling bar-b-que by the sandwich or by the pound on Sunday, February 6. The Masons will be at the lodge (113 Main Street, Italy) from 9:00am to 3:00pm ready to help you put together your Super Bowl meal including sausage on a stick and roasted corn.
Monday was the one-hundredth day of school for the students at Stafford Elementary. To celebrate this event the pre-k, kindergarten and first grade classes came together and enjoyed some activities using the number one-hundred.
The Italy EDC will have a called meeting on Monday, February 7, 2011. In addition to the meeting there will also be a hearing. The agenda slates the community center project as its primary topic of business. The meeting and hearing will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers at will begin at 6:30pm.
The Titus Women of Milford will sponsor its annual Father/Daughter Dance on Saturday, February 12. All girls ages pre-k and up escorted by their fathers, grandfathers, etc. are welcome to attend.

The 5th annual Ennis Czech Music Festival will be held Saturday, February 12th. There will be five different bands performing, with the first band taking the stage at 1:30pm and the last band’s performance beginning at 10:00pm.
The City of Italy Park Board will have their monthly meeting (rescheduled from January 4 and January 18) on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building (105 W. Main Street, Italy, Texas). Meeting time is 5:30pm. Agenda items include discussion of the recent Christmas Festival and project planning for 2011.
Bailey Eubank can be proud of the job she did at the Fort Worth Stock Show last week. Bailey showed her heifer, E.U. Snowflake, who was named Grand Champion Shorthorn Female on January 22, 2011.

With the winter weather heading full steam towards North Texas the decision has been made to move games scheduled for Tuesday night against Rio Vista to be played tonight (Monday, January 30th). The Lady Gladiator varsity game will begin tonight at 5:00pm followed by the varsity boys. There will not be any JV games due to this emergency change in schedule.
Italy’s Varsity and JV Gladiators and Lady Gladiators played four games against Whitney. The JV Girls game was played in the old Italy gym while the JV Boys and both Varsity games were played under the Italy Coliseum dome.

Mildred, Venus, Italy White and Italy Gold each participated in the Italy Junior High Basketball Tournament this past Saturday. A fairly even field, all the teams won at least one game before the end of tournament play.
Wednesday, a man was seen carrying a big wooden cross around our little town of Italy. He sported a rhinestone studded cowboy hat and looked to be quite a character. His name is Chuck Johnson and he carries a big cross around America to remind folks about Jesus.
The Avalon cheerleaders are back from Florida and boy are they excited. They had a lot of new and different experiences and are ready for next year’s cheerleading camp.
The 2011 Italy Powerlifting Team is powered by pride and guided by IHS Athletic Director Craig Bales and coaches Jeff & Heather Richters. Team members have competed in three meets thus far, in Forney, Rice and Blooming Grove, and have continued to surpass previous bests one lift at a time.

This past Saturday, January 22nd, 4 members of the Gladiator Regiment band performed with in the Region 8 East Zone All-region band at Groesbeck High School. The band consisted of students from over 20 middle school feeders of 1A, 2A, and 3A high schools.
With the Keetch-Byrum Drought Index reading for Ellis County at only 186, Ellis County Commissioners voted unanimously to lift the ban on outdoor burning.
The Gladiators and Lady Gladiators’ Varsity and JV teams saddled up and journeyed to Axtell to tangle with the Longhorns Friday night. After Axtell’s fans made it tough on the Lady Gladiators, Italy’s faithful returned the favor in the Varsity boy’s finale. All in good fun, of course!
The Italy School Board of Trustees approved the issuance of $1,505,000 Series 2011 Refunding Bonds at its monthly meeting Monday evening.
