The Lady Gladiators will be playing Santo at Chisholm Trail (3100 NW College Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76179) this Friday night at 7:00. Italy will be the home team. All district passes and coaches association passes will be accepted. Cost will be $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Angela Muirhead, Italy High’s campus secretary, makes sure the campus stays on track daily. She is here to serve administration, teachers, and students, and is glad to help any way she can.
Erica Miller, the counselor at Italy JHS/HS, wears many hats. From counseling to scheduling to coordinating many events, her determination to do her job well shows. She enjoys working with students and putting them on a track for success.
Lee Joffre, Italy’s secondary campus principal, is serving his fourth year as a Gladiator. He enjoys working with his staff and students whether it’s academically or supporting their extra-curricular activities.
Italy’s two games on Saturday end with a tie against Blooming Grove and a win over Palmer with head coach Tina Richards and assistant coaches Michael Chambers and Johnny Jones continuing to mold the Lady Gladiators into a work of heart.
The Lady Gladiator varsity basketball squad, who finished 6-0 in district and are advancing to the area round on Friday, were recognized by the school board during their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening. The Lady Gladiators are ranked 15th in TGCA (Texas Girls Coaches Association) and 20th in the TABC (Texas Association of Basketball Coaches).

Italy Junior High basketball teams wrap up their 2015 season at home in the dome. The 8th graders took their final shots, their last dribbles and grabbed their last rebounds of their junior high careers but left behind plenty of memorable moments.

This past Friday and Saturday, February 6th and 7th, Jennifer Eaglen, teacher and sponsor for Italy High School’s FCCLA program, accompanied students competing in the Family Career and Community Leaders of America’s Regional Competition. These students came home with several awards and accolades. This year’s theme was ‘We Are Anchored in Success,’ and our Italy Gladiators proved that to be true. Of the 11 students who had entries, 9 will advance to state competition in Corpus Christi on April 8th-11th, 2015.

Lady Gladiator softball supporters will be serving up some goodies in the foyer during tonight’s junior high basketball games in the dome starting at 5:00pm. There will be hot and fresh homemade soups, four different kinds. From taco soup to potato soup and two others so there is sure to be one to fit your tastebuds. In addition to the delicious soup, the Lady Gladiator softball staff will be cooking hot and fresh grill cheese sandwiches. And if this isn’t enough, there will be Doris Mitchell’s famous Rice Krispie treats too! Come and get it!
Youth for Human Rights provides educators with curriculum covering the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Recently two Italy 8th grade students in Mr. Guidry’s class, Wesley Helms and Mikey South, completed the curriculum and received certificates for their accomplishments.
The 8th grade science class had the opportunity to link up with the International Space Station last week. The students were able to send photo requests during certain orbits to the astronauts. The students were studying weather so they were using a real time weather map while pin-pointing coordinates on the globe and requesting a photo from the ISS of the location. The students had a total of 250 photos taken.
Congratulations to the Italy Athletic Association (IYAA) C-team players and cheerleaders who were presented their 2014 Superbowl Championship hoodies on Monday by City of Italy’s Mayor James Hobbs under the downtown pavillion.
The Italy ISD Building Committee will meet on Monday, February 2, 2015, in the Italy High School library. The meeting is open to the general public. Committee members will be discussing future renovations and possible new construction projects for Italy schools.

Judy Turk, age 68, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Ennis. She was born October 11, 1946 in Waxahachie to W.A. and Maggie Lou (Warren) Hyles. Judy graduated from Italy High School in 1966. She worked at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro for over 20 years, where she was the activity director. Her work was her calling and she loved to help take care of people. She was like a mother to everyone she took care of.

Paula Harris, age 85, of Italy, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab. She was born April 21, 1929 in Iredell, Texas to William L. and Abby (Russell) Morgan. Paula graduated from Italy High School in 1947 and worked for the post office for 25 years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church and served as an Elder at the Park Presbyterian Church in Italy where she enjoyed serving the church. She loved to sew and cook, specializing in fried chicken and chocolate pie. Paula was a loving mother and grandmother.
