Casey Holden, an Italy graduate herself, leads the math department for Italy JHS/HS. Her students brag on her ability to teach math even to those who struggle. She is always helpful to any student who needs math assistance—during and outside of school.

Can one person make a difference? According to the American Cancer Society (ACS) it is estimated that 1,660,290 people in the United States will be diagnosed with some type of cancer this year. That number breaks down to 854,790 men and 805,500 women. This estimate does not include basal and squamous cell skin and non-invasive carcinomas, with the exception of urinary bladder cancer. Based on rates from 2008 to 2010, nearly 41 percent of men and women born today will be diagnosed with cancer at some time during their lifetime.

Free Book Fair at Central Baptist Church


Central Baptist Church is having a free book fair and is inviting everyone! Come by the church fellowship center Monday, February 23 thru Wednesday, March 4th and take as many books as you want. It’s all free!

Erica Miller, the counselor at Italy JHS/HS, wears many hats. From counseling to scheduling to coordinating many events, her determination to do her job well shows. She enjoys working with students and putting them on a track for success.

Lee Joffre, Italy’s secondary campus principal, is serving his fourth year as a Gladiator. He enjoys working with his staff and students whether it’s academically or supporting their extra-curricular activities.

The Lady Gladiator varsity basketball squad, who finished 6-0 in district and are advancing to the area round on Friday, were recognized by the school board during their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening. The Lady Gladiators are ranked 15th in TGCA (Texas Girls Coaches Association) and 20th in the TABC (Texas Association of Basketball Coaches).

Italy gets the most out of a friendly scrimmage against visiting Red Oak Life as the Lady Gladiators continue to polish up their armor and sharpen their swings.

Take advantage of the warm weather tomorrow (Saturday, February 14th) and watch our “Valentine Sweethearts of Sand” host Blooming Grove and Palmer for a three team round-robin tournament.

This past Friday and Saturday, February 6th and 7th, Jennifer Eaglen, teacher and sponsor for Italy High School’s FCCLA program, accompanied students competing in the Family Career and Community Leaders of America’s Regional Competition. These students came home with several awards and accolades. This year’s theme was ‘We Are Anchored in Success,’ and our Italy Gladiators proved that to be true. Of the 11 students who had entries, 9 will advance to state competition in Corpus Christi on April 8th-11th, 2015.
