This morning at Stafford Elementary the construction company hit an electric line that buried under the old foundation. We will be assessing the situation and notifying parents of any changes to our schedule.
Italy ISD announced its policy today for providing free and reduced-price meals for children served under the attached current income eligibility guidelines. The Italy ISD administration office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by anyone on request.

This week Stafford Elementary is hosting the annual Book Fair. Due to construction, the book fair is being held in the gymnasium. I hope that each member of the community will be supportive of the book fair. The proceeds benefit the library.
This morning I walked the demolition site at Stafford Elementary. The progress is coming along well.
During their meeting on September 1, 2016 the Italy City Council voted to waive the .06 cent per square foot permit fees for the construction of the Italy ISD facilities. In a called meeting on Tuesday night, the Council voted to rescind that and restructure the construction permit fees. Lee Joffre, Superintendent of Italy ISD addressed the council with the following comments.

Although we had some adjustments due to impending construction and the weather, the first week of school went very well.
Italy Independent School District offers career and technical education programs from the 16 nationally established career cluster areas. Admission to these programs is based on interest in subject, aptitude, required prerequisites, and course availability.

At a called board meeting July 18, 2016, The Italy ISD Board of Trustees named Mr. Leroy V. Joffre as the lone finalist for the Superintendent position. Mr. Joffre is currently serving Italy ISD as the High School Principal.

The State Board of Education (SBOE) is issuing a survey in English and Spanish to seek public input about the state’s current assessment and accountability programs and gather suggestions for future program development. The survey will be open online to all Texans through June 30.
Summer school for grades 5 & 8 will continue as scheduled to ensure academic success. The last day for summer school for grades 5 & 8 will be Thursday, June 16, 2016.
The summer school schedule for students who need to retake the high school End-of-Course exams has not been changed.
When the academic year comes to an end and our school cafeterias close, our kids still need nutritious meals to help nurture mind, body, and spirit. At Italy ISD, we will ensure that our students get free healthy meals during the summer vacation through our Summer Food Service Program. The Texas Department of Agriculture administers this program to connect Texas children in need of good nutrition during the summer months.

Italy ISD will honor the military for Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9:00am in the George Scott Coliseum. All veterans and community are welcome to attend.
Parents and Community: The following information is being provided to help understand a situation that occurred today. At approximately 1:09 PM employees of the high school became aware of a domestic disturbance on Park St. The Italy police department was notified. The decision was made to enter a Code Yellow Lock Down. This type lock down prevents students, and community members from leaving and/or entering the building. During the lock down the faculty and staff ensured all doors were secured and students were safe.

The annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund barbecue dinner will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Italy High School Cafeteria. Cost for the meal is $12 per person. The meal will be catered by Bubba’s of Ennis.
Italy ISD has called for an early release due to pending inclement weather. Students will be released at 1:00 p.m. and busses will run at 1:00 p.m.
Emergency Management Officials are closely watching a pending storm. Italy ISD will notify the community via the Italy Neotribune, social media and text blasts if there is a need for the dome to open. Should there be a need to open the dome we will enforce a “No Pets Allowed” policy for the safety of our community members.
After reading Mr. Morrison’s letter, I decided to call the superintendent and find out for my self if some of the things in the letter are true. Here are my findings.

With voting clearly underway for Italy ISD’s 2015 Bond, I was ecstatic when Stafford Elementary’s 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Davee Garcia, contacted me to discuss a writing project that she and her fourth grade students were planning. The fourth graders were beginning their persuasive writing unit and had decided to write about the bond election. Their task was to write a persuasive paper of why someone should vote for or vote against the bond. I was asked to present to the class as the “bond expert.”

￼￼As the election season draws near, inaccurate rumors regarding the Italy ISD bond continue to grow. Perhaps the biggest one is the idea that construction at Stafford Elementary will take a back seat to additions and renovations at the high school. This is completely untrue.
Superintendent Jaime Velasco will be hosting an information meeting about the proposed school bond on Wednesday April 15, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the Italy Community Center. Refreshments will be served.
Today, Monday, April 6, 2015, is one of three dates that there will be a Question & Answer Session regarding the $12m Italy ISD bond issue. There will be a campus tour at 6pm followed by the Q&A session held in the Italy High School band hall at 7pm. Bring your friends and neighbors and learn first hand what the school district is proposing and how it might affect you and your community.
Italy students will make-up one of two days for inclement weather this Friday.
The Italy ISD Building Committee will meet on Monday, February 2, 2015, in the Italy High School library. The meeting is open to the general public. Committee members will be discussing future renovations and possible new construction projects for Italy schools.

Senior yearbook ads must have a deposit in to Mrs. Eaglen by January 9th. A 50% deposit is required to hold your page and ALL pages must be completely paid for and the layout must be turned in by April 6th. Remember a full page is $125, half page is $70 and a quarter page is $45.
On Veterans Day, the administrators, staff and students of Italy ISD showed their appreciation to local veterans by hosting a program to honor them.

School personnel are often our unsung heroes. They take more complaints than they do praise most of the time. They work endless hours to assure our children are educated, safe and well fed.
The Board of Trustees of Italy ISD adopted a resolution on July 21, 2014 to suspend the mathematics portion of policy EIE (Local). Students in grades 5 and 8 will not need to meet the passing standards on the STAAR mathematics assessment only for the 2014-2015 school year in order to be promoted to the next grade.
The Italy Administration office has announced summer hours for the administration office as well as the high school and elementary school campuses.
