As it stands now, the halftime ceremony planned for tonight’s Homecoming festivities will be held during halftime as is tradition. In the case of sprinkles &/or light rain this plan will remain.
Parade participants will need to start lining up at 1:30 in the Italy High School parking lot. Numbers will be handed out for each participant to display on their float/vehicle so everyone can just follow the number ahead of them. With a busy week of Italy High School homecoming activities planned, be sure to join the students at the annual bonfire behind the field house. The 2014 Homecoming King and Queen nominees have been announced as well.
Season tickets with reserved seating are available for purchase at the superintendent’s office. In order to ensure that season ticket holders’ reserved seats are available we will have ushers at the game. The ushers will check the season ticket holder’s pass and help them find the correct seat.
All IHS graduates of ‘44, ’54, ’64, ’74, ’84, ’94, ’04 and ’14 are invited to attend Italy High School’s 2014 Homecoming festivities. All will be recognized at the start of the Homecoming game against Dawson. Recognition ceremony will be held at 7:00pm on the historic Willis Field. Graduates are asked to meet at the field house at 6:45pm.
Homecoming 2014 is just around the corner, and preparations have already begun. On October 10, 2014, the parade will start at the high school parking lot and will wind around to end behind the First State Bank with our crowd-rousing pep rally during which the Homecoming King will be announced.
Italy High School would like to congratulate Mrs. Lindsey Thompson for being recognized by The Caruth Institute for Engineering at Southern Methodist University for her work during the summer.
In an effort to increase the safety of our students Italy High School is implementing a new drop-off and pick-up procedure. We are asking all students, parents, employees and community members to use the routes outlined in the attached map when going to the high school during these times: 7:30am – 8:00am & 3:15pm – 3:45pm.

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! The teachers and staff are excited to get started and look forward to meeting you this evening.
Italy High School will host a second meeting discuss the drug testing policy with parents. The meeting will be held in the high school cafeteria at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Mr. Joffre, the high school principal, will discuss the testing procedures as defined in board policy. A representative from Pinnacle Medical Management will be available to answer questions from parents.
All Italy High School 9th through 12th grade students are invited to the 4th annual IHS Back-to-School-Bash on Monday, August 18th. The event will begin at 7:30pm and end at 10:30pm. The bash will be held at 871 Stafford Road (The Lewis’ House) just south of Italy. Burgers and all the fixings along with swimming, volleyball, ping pong, horseshoes, and dancing will be available to the students at this fun event held in their honor.
Italy High School Freshman Class parents are asked to attend a meeting on Thursday, August 14th at 7:30pm to discuss the Back to School Bash. The meeting will be held in the IHS Cafeteria.
Erica Miller, Italy High School Guidance Counselor, has released the following textbook list for those students enrolled in the Dual Credit classes offered at IHS.
The Italy ISD junior high and varsity cheer squads will be holding a car wash fundraiser Saturday, June 28 at the Chicken Express in Waxahachie. The cheerleaders will be washing cars from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Come out and support the Gladiator cheerleaders this Saturday!
The administration at Italy High School is implementing a new scheduling system for the 2014-2015 school year. The system will allow students to enter their pre-approved course requests directly into the computer. The students’ benefit is receiving their schedule sooner. The school also benefits by having a more efficient method of scheduling.
After graduation practice last Friday, the IHS senior class headed with big appetites to Central Baptist Church for the annual Senior meal.
Any current or former Italy ISD student requesting a transcript will need to fill out a transcript request form. The transcript request form is located at the front office of the High School.
First Baptist Church of Italy honored the 2014 senior graduates of Italy High School with a luau, complete with wonderful food and games.
Italy Junior High students were honored by administration and teachers. The Margaret Oliphant Cup was awarded to Chris Munoz.
Italy’s graduating seniors enjoy the annual Ice Cream Social hosted by the Methodist Church of Italy. Games, snacks, words of wisdom from Rev. Ann Hitt, and of course ice cream,culminated in a fun event for all the seniors!

Italy High School Prom Night 2014 proved to be a fun and spirited occasion for all with plenty of dancing, enough to eat and friendship and laughter.
Recently, Corl McCarthy, an IHS senior gave her time and artistic talent to paint Stafford Elementary Library’s new announcement board. Corl remembers being a Stafford Tiger and enjoying her trips to the library. As an upper elementary student, she even assisted Mrs. Burkhalter with shelving and other occasional jobs. When asked to paint a fun border for the announcement board, she agreed to the task.

The Senior Scholarship Awards Program ceremony was held inside Italy Gladiator Coliseum on May 15. Congratulations to the 2014 graduating class and thank you all for your efforts while representing Italy High School!
Italy High School principal, Lee Joffre, would like to meet with parents of students who plan on participating in extra-curricular activities during the 2014-2015 school year. The activities would include, but not limited to: Athletics, Band, UIL Academics, FFA, 4H, Theatre, FCCLA, etc. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 6:30pm in the Italy High School cafeteria.
Cynthia Nance was proud to award the Shelley Nance Memorial Art Scholarship on May 15, 2014 in the amount of $1,000 to Italy High School senior Joseph Sage.
The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club cordially invites all supporters of IHS athletics to come to the annual athletic banquet. Join us as we honor the blood, sweat and tears of our Gladiators and Lady Gladiators during this past year’s athletic contests. The banquet will be held in the Italy High School dome on Thursday, May 22, 2014. The food line will open at 6:00pm.
Italy ISD invites you to the annual spring band concert on Tuesday, May 20th at 6:30 pm at the George Scott Gymnasium. Students from grades 6th-12th grade will be presenting their contest selections as well as some additional music to display their talents.
Italy High School has changed the time of graduation to 7:30 PM on June 6, 2014. The time was originally scheduled for 7:00 PM. The graduation invitations were printed incorrectly and to avoid confusion the Italy ISD administration decided to make the change.
On June 16th-20th, 2014 the Italy High School varsity and junior high cheerleaders will have a cheer camp for girls and boys entering PreK through 6th grade. Camp will be from 6:00pm to 7:30pm each day. A presentation for family and friends will be held Friday, June 20th @ 7pm in the IHS Dome Gymnasium.
A theme at Italy High School this year has been “Attend school and strive for the Honor Roll.”
During the recent Ellis County Art Association’s Art Show several Italy High School art students participated. The competition showcases original art by children that reside in Ellis County and are enrolled in public, private and home school grades k through twelve.
Italy ISD will use May 9, 2014 as the make up day for the lost day of school on Friday, December 6th, 2013 due to inclement weather. This day was reserved as a Bad Weather Day on the Italy ISD school calendar.
All students planning on enrolling in the Dual Credit courses planned at Italy High School will need to pass the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) Assessment. The TSI Assessment is designed to help determine readiness for college-level course work. Italy High School will offer tutoring to help students prepare for this required test scheduled for May 21st.

Tyler Anderson and Paige Westbrook were refunded their prom ticket purchase cost this morning when they were announced the winners of the ‘Best Way to Ask Your Date to Prom’ contest. Voters from three different states unanimously selected this couple’s entry as their top choice. Congratulations Tyler and Paige! Students may still purchase tickets for this year’s prom through this Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the high school library.

Italy High School is getting ready to start its fifth annual Read It Forward: Pass It On literacy project which will begin April 21st and will end May 23rd. The goal is to see how many 7-12 grade students, teachers and staff members can read the chosen book Girl, Stolen, by April Henry.
Italy high school principal, Mr. Lee Joffre, is dressed to promote a special night — the Italy High School 2014 Prom. He is wearing a camo-vested tuxedo from Lone Star Western & Casual to advertise for the upcoming event.
On Tuesday, April 29th at 6:30 p.m., Italy High School will host a parent information night with the Navarro College Dual Credit Coordinator. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend to get information about the registration process, entrance requirements, costs and scholarship opportunities for the 2014-2015 school year. Parents will also have an opportunity to ask questions at the high school without having to drive to Navarro.
The math department at Italy High School has put together a MATH BLITZ for the all the 8th graders, a a four-day tutorial session to help students prepare for their upcoming STAAR Test.
The First day of Italy Junior High School’s Math Blitz to get the 8th graders ready for the STAAR test was a awesome success. Students had a lot of fun and got their learn on. All IJHS 8th graders are more than welcome to attend on Wednesday, March 26th from 3-5 pm and on Thursday, March 27th from 3-5pm as well.
Italy High School seniors have been working very hard to pursue their future endeavors. Several students have been accepted to a post-secondary school. We also have several students who have applied and are awaiting their acceptance letters.
