Jon Cady is a new math teacher at Italy High School. He is also the new head baseball coach and an assistant football and basketball coach. Prior to coming to Italy, he was a teacher/coach at Mason, Buffalo and Mansfield. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a degree in Kinesiology.
Bobby Campbell is enjoying his first year on staff at Italy High School. In addition to teaching technology, health and leadership, he is also an assistant football coach, head power lifting coach and head track coach. Prior to coming to Italy, he was a teacher/coach for five years in Itasca, two years in Fairfield, eight years in McGregor and eight years in Temple.
When Morgan Mathews was hired as a teacher and the new Head Volleyball Coach at Italy High School, she brought expertise, energy and excitement with her. She wants her students and athletes to live up to their potential while having fun and working hard. She wants them to do their best and live for the moment because that moment only comes around once.

Italy – The Lady Gladiator varsity volleyball team put one in the win column Tuesday night when they hosted their South Ellis County rivals, the Lady Bulldogs of Milford. They won all three games 25-22, 25-20 and 25-21.
Try as they might, the Gladiators drop their second game in a row, a 34-13 loss to Sunnyvale.
Italy — The Gladiator 7th grade squad appeared to be on their way to a shutout victory after two touchdown runs by workhorse Jonathan Salas, and a 2-point conversion catch by Chasston Wilson seemed to all but end Sunnyvale’s chances. Italy lead 14-0 with just 2:59 left in the opening game of a triple-header Thursday night at Italy’s historic Willis Field.
Waxahachie — Italy’s AD/HFC Charles Tindol, his staff, the players, the band and flag corp, the cheerleaders, the water boys, the film crew, the Stat Squad girls and the rest of Gladiator Nation settled in this past Friday night inside Waxahachie’s Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium to enjoy the sights and sounds of the 2nd Annual Dale Hansen Football Classic.
The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club will have a fully stocked spirit table during the junior high and JV football games tonight. The table will be set up and ready for business by 4:30pm. Come by before everything is gone…again.

The Italy JV Gladiators enjoyed playing at home but the visiting Malakoff JV Tigers shredded the Wills Field welcome matt.

There will be a parent meeting for Italy Junior High Volleyball will be on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the dome. This meeting will discuss practice times, expectations of players and give parents the opportunity to ask questions about the upcoming volleyball session. Maypearl’s JV dominates the first half to lead 20-0 by intermission, and eventually win the game, but Italy’s JV outscored the Panthers 6-0 in the second half and will build from there.
Lady Gladiator Volleyball (varsity, JV as well as a freshman squad) will travel to Blooming Grove to participate in tournaments over the next two weekends. The varsity will play on Thursday, August 29th and Saturday, August 31st and the JV and 9th grade squads will play on Thursday, September 5 and Saturday, September 7th. Attached are complete brackets for both weekends.

Palmer — Coming off a strong showing in their first scrimmage against 1A Valley Mills, the 1A Italy Gladiators received a bit more resistance from the 2A Palmer Bulldogs during the final scrimmage for both teams before their 2013 season’s kickoff.
The Lady Gladiators hosted a volleyball round-robin inside Italy Coliseum with Italy, Palmer and Venus each securing a team win before the dust had cleared.
The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club will meet on Monday, August 26th at 6:15pm in the Italy High School Library. All parents and supporters of Italy Gladiator Athletics are welcome to attend.

The Lady Gladiator Junior High Volleyball squads will begin preparation for their upcoming season once school starts next Monday. Both the Italy Lady Gladiators varsity and JV squads played played at a high level during an Italy hosted round-robin against Kerens and Scurry-Rosser last week.
The Dale Hansen Football Classic academic scholarship was established in 2012 to aid high school students wishing to pursue secondary education at the collegiate level. The classic is pleased to offer academic scholarships, ranging from $500.00 to $1000.00, to one boy and one girl in the senior class from each of the six high schools represented in the 2013 games. Applications are available in the office of the lead counselor at each of the six high schools – Italy Malakoff, Florence, Thrall, Alvarado, and Mexia.
The Lady Gladiator varsity volleyball squad will travel to Venus tomorrow, Thursday, August 15th and play three seeding matches in the Venus varsity tournament to be held at the Venus High School gymnasium. Bracket play for the tournament will be held on Saturday, August 17th.

Gladiator Athletic Booster Club vice-president, Flossie Gowin, has called a meeting for Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 5:45pm to be held in the Italy High School’s Library. Hill College’s Lady Rebel Softball coaching staff is having two, 2-day softball camps in July. The first camp, to be held on July 18th and 19th, will be for 10 thru 14 year-olds and the second camp, to be held on July 25th and 26th, will be for 15 thru 18 year olds. Both of these camps will be held at the Hill College softball field in Hillsboro, just a short drive from Italy.
