When Eric Janszen left Midlothian High School to come to Italy last year, he knew it was time for a change. He had taught Agriculture for 15 years there and knew he had done everything he could to do to be successful there.
Italy ISD started a new tradition at their monthly board meeting on Monday night. Seven students received the Superintendent Star awards and two received Junior Gladiator awards.
Hey, Gladiator Fans! Support 2014 Italy HS graduate #50 NG Zain “Zilla” Byers as he and his Austin College Kangaroo teammates take on the SAGU Lions at Waxahachie’s Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. Also, the Gladiator 1st-2nd Grade flag football team will compete in an exhibition contest at halftime featuring local talent and coaches.
The Italy Jr. High Gladiators will only have one game to play on Thursday, September 22, at Dallas Gateway Charter starting at 5:30 p.m. Also on Thursday, the Italy JV Gladiators will travel to Waco Lavega for a 7:30p.m. kickoff. Go Italy!

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their monthly meeting on Monday, September 19, 2016 in the Italy High School Cafeteria (300 S. College Street, Italy). Meeting time is slated for 7pm.
The Italy Community Activities Committee met on September 13, 2016 to make decisions regarding the upcoming Homecoming Parade and Italian Festival. They voted to cancel the Italian Festival scheduled for October 15, 2016 and combine it with the traditional Christmas festivities held on the first Saturday in December.

The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club is offering advertisements in the Gladiator Homecoming Program for the 2016 football season as shown on the attached order form. Pricing will include an ad in the enhanced Homecoming Program and a listing in three home game roster programs, the 2016 Powder Puff program and any postseason programs featuring your hometown Italy Gladiators.
During the regular monthly meeting on Monday night the Italy City Council made several necessary changes to the proposed budget then unanimously approved it. They also approved the 2016-2017 Economic Development Corporation budget.
After opening their 2016 campaign with wins over Valley Mills, 23-2, and Mildred, 41-21, the Italy Gladiators, fueled by 2 defensive touchdowns, shutout Blooming Grove 42-0 to improve their non-district record to 3-0. Go Italy!
The Shop With a Hero raffle was held today and was a big success thanks to everyone that purchased tickets. A big thank you also goes to the Spring Market for allowing us to hold the raffle drawing there and for their employees picking the winning tickets.

The Italy Police Department is planning many activities for this year’s National Night Out (NNO). Upchurch Field in Italy will come alive with all kinds of entertainment, food and fun this year on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Jon Mathers is the guest disc jockey for the evening so Chief Beckham is requesting that all the children come and “wobble with the chief”.
The Italy Varsity and Junior High Cheerleaders are now taking orders for Pink Out t-shirts! Orders can be placed through a cheerleader, at Mrs. Ballard’s office in the high school, or by emailing the cheer sponsors.
Cameron Beckham, Italy Chief of Police, is asking the community to help the department purchase two special vests for added protection for our officers.
A talented and young Milford Bulldogs Football squad starts their 2016 season 1-1 after challenging a pair of state-ranked opponents right out of the gate. Milford head coach Ronny Crumpton has the ’Dogs digging in for another exciting run for the playoffs.

The library will be closed this Saturday, Sept. 3 for the Labor Day holiday. Beginning next week, will return to regular hours, Tuesday – Saturday 9:00 A.M – 5:00 P.M. and closed for lunch daily from 1:00 P.M. – 1:30 P.M.
Christopher Rizzuto has recently been hired as the new Assistant Principal for Italy High School. He was raised in Louisiana where his father was a teacher and a rice and soybean farmer. When he graduated from high school in Louisiana, he had his future all planned out. Even though almost everyone in his family were teachers, coaches or educators, he decided to go a different life route and major in pre-law. He planned to go to law school after he graduated from college, but life circumstances sent him to another state and a different career.
Onita B. “Billie” Chambers, age 90, a lifelong resident of Italy, passed away at Red Oak Health and Rehabilitation, on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. She was born on December 13, 1925 in Peoria, Texas. Billie married Aubra Chambers on December 29, 1946. Some of her favorite times were watching the sun set with Aubra at their home in the country.

Congratulations to the Italy Gladiator 10U Baseball Team that finished as the 2016 Waxahachie Youth Baseball Association End of Summer Tournament Runner-up this past Friday night at the Optimist Club fields.

In their regular monthly meeting Monday night, the Italy Economic Development Corporation (EDC) approved their 2016-2017 budget. They voted to move $3,455.09 to Projects to balance the $96,432.00 budget. The budget will now be submitted to the Italy City Council for approval.

With the recent rains causing work to slow or cease, the Operation’s crew of Italy ISD is working hard to get both campuses ready for students on Monday.
Our new IHS Band Director, Mr. VanOmmeren, invited the band parents to come and see what the band has been working on all summer. Unfortunately, the weather forced us indoors, but it was great to hear the marching band’s halftime program for this year. The theme is music from Guardians of The Galaxy. After the performance, the band boosters hosted an ice cream social for all.

Italy Independent School District offers career and technical education programs from the 16 nationally established career cluster areas. Admission to these programs is based on interest in subject, aptitude, required prerequisites, and course availability.
Mission Italy ISD was in full swing Sunday night when members of Central Baptist Church met to pack school supplies into backpacks for Italy ISD students. Thirty-seven adults and youth filled the backpacks and prayed for the students and families that will receive them.

The Italy Gladiator JV and Varsity football teams will be having a scrimmage this Friday, August 19, in McGregor. Italy will be testing their might against Little River Academy with the JV matchup starting at 5:00 p.m. and immediately followed by the Varsity scrimmage.
IYAA Football and Cheerleading Signups will end Saturday, August 20th. We still need players and cheerleaders, so if you would like to sign your child up, this article lists the signup options available to parents. All past players as well as newcomers are welcome to sign up!!!
In a called meeting on August 12, 2016, the Italy City Council after much discussion took no action regarding City Council and Mayor compensation. Council member Henry Wortman requested this be placed on the agenda. He said that in 2009 the council had been seen in a bad light by the media when the council gave themselves and the mayor a raise. He said he felt the Mayor and Council deserved to be compensated for the job they were doing. He suggested the council reinstate this by compensation to the mayor and council members.
Italy Independent School District welcomes you to the 2016 – 2017 School Year. The teachers are reporting this week and soon the students will be filling our halls. It has been a busy summer to get ready for them. We have accomplished much and look forward to continued growth for our community and students.
Football Season Passes will go on sale beginning Monday, August 15, 2015 after 1:00 p.m., in the Administration Office. The price is $30.00 each and includes all home football games.
