“A child is handicapped through no fault of his own and every child has the right to a happy childhood.”
The local Lions Club needs your help. The Italy chapter met last Monday, inviting citizens willing to serve others to consider joining. “If we are unable to boost our membership and the Italy Lion’s Club discontinues, there were be no civic organization in existence between Waxahachie and Hillsboro,” explained a concerned Mr. Gowin. “We currently have five members but rely on a couple of members to carry the group and that just isn’t being fair to them.” Please visit their website for more detailed information or contact Flossie Gowin at (972)523-6799 to make arrangements or simply attend one of the club’s meetings with the meeting times listed below:
The Italy Lion’s Club meeting times and locations:
- The 1st Sunday of every month starting at 3:00 p.m. inside the Monolithic Dome Training Center located at 209 Dome Park Place, Italy.
- 3rd Monday of every month, starting at 7:00 p.m. inside the Italy Church of Christ Annex located at 601 College Street.
The organization offers services for children. Eyeglasses when none can be purchased, high school senior scholarships, no-cost summer camp for diabetic and dis-advantaged children, Sports Extravaganza-a Special Olympics event for blind and visually impaired children and support of eye research foundations including research on diabetes. These are just some of the service projects Lions Club chapters across the nation participate in. In fact, the Lions Clubs work in roughly 200 geographic areas around the world, with more than 44,500 clubs and 1.4 million members. In Texas alone, there are approximately 1,000 clubs. Please consider joining this chapter and help others.
