There were only two birthdays at Trinity Mission for the month of October but that didn’t stop anyone from having lots of fun. The celebration was full of fun, ice cream and cake! Jack Guthrie and Virginia Roderick were the birthday folks this month.
Jack Guthrie better known as ‘Brother Jack’ at Trinity Mission was a preacher for twenty four years. He was the pastor for the First Assembly of God in Avalon, the pastor for First Assembly of God in Forreston and was also the pastor for the First Assembly of God in Italy.
‘Brother Jack’ said, “It is funny how God works I never thought that I would be a pastor.” He went on to say, “Every weekend I always was doing something fun and my weekends were full, never thought about church. One Saturday some friends of mine invited me to an open church service where there were going to be evangelists preaching and I decided to go. This was not something I would usually be going to, but I went. When they were finished preaching they invited us to come down and surrender ourselves to God. And I did, I surrendered myself to God and the rest is history.”
Virginia Roderick was a school teacher for thirty five years. She taught first, second and third grade at Ennis Elementary and did substitute teaching at Waxahachie schools. Virginia said, “I enjoyed teaching and I really do miss it. I loved teaching them to read, write, subtract and add. I also tried very hard to teach them to share and how to be a good person.”
Happy Birthday “Brother Jack” and Virginia!
