National Nursing Home Week is to honor those who take care of the elderly and a time to remember the people who live in nursing homes. Trinity Mission had a week full of different events everyday to celebrate the lives of all the residents and care givers.
The week was kicked off on Monday with a visit by the Mayor of Italy, Frank Jackson, presenting a proclamation to Trinity Mission honoring the residents and staff. Jackson also was there for the “balloon lift off.” This is where all the residents are given a balloon that they ‘send off to heaven’ honoring the residents that have passed away.
All dressed in western gear, they ate beans and hot dogs and played horseshoes, washers and bean bag toss.
Curtis Riddle came with his dog Ace performing all kinds of tricks that thrilled the residents.
On Tuesday was “Clown Day” and boy was there a lot of clowning around! Lots of staff members were dressed as clowns and lots of residents were wearing clown hats. They were busy playing bean bag toss and enjoying the beautiful outdoors while snacking on popcorn. They also had a cake walk and snow cones.
Wednesday was “Movie Day!” They watched movies all day long and snacked on popcorn and candy. One of the movies they viewed was, “We Bought A Zoo,” there was a lot of laughter during that movie! For lunch they had pizza and salad.
Thursday was “Field Day” and the residents didn’t miss a beat. They were all lined up in their wheel chairs in front of a volleyball net and the moves began with the residents and staff having a really good game of volleyball.
Friday was back to the 50’s and many poodle skirts could be seen worn by the staff that day. Residents were having fun with good music and lots of games.
“Here it is Nursing home week at Trinity mission, Monday was Western Day, Tuesday was clown day, Wednesday was movie day, Thursday is Field day and Friday is back to the fifties with a sock hop. Everyone at Trinity Mission is having fun, this is all for the residents and they are having a blast,” said Carolyn Powell (activities director).
Another great week at Trinity Mission.
