No matter how good you are, you’re going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you’re going to win one-third of your games. It’s the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda, former Major League baseball pitcher and manager.
The Gladiator baseball season is in full swing. The boys have played three of their district games and ready for number four. You have to look at this season as the glass is half full instead of half empty. These guys are trying and just can’t get a win under their belt. Grandview Zebras won 17-5 and the Maypearl Panthers won 14-4. However, the Gladiators did win against Avalon 11-7 in a pre-season game.
“The game last night (Tuesday) ended up 14-4. In the Grandview game, I thought we handled the bats well; the guys did a good job of hitting the ball and adjusting to what their pitcher was trying to do. Last night, we handled the bats well at times, just couldn’t come through with some timely hitting with runners on base. In both games, the deciding factor of each game was our overall defense. We have to make some better pitches and our defense must make plays behind our pitchers. We cannot afford to give good hitting teams like Grandview and Maypearl extra outs and bases because they will capitalize on those. I am proud of how our guys played hard until the very end of both games and never quit. Overall, we just have to keep working to improve in all aspects of the game. I still have confidence that we are going to get this turned around and be in the middle of the playoff hunt,” said Gladiator Head Baseball Coach, Josh Ward.
The next game is home at the Davison Field against Whitney on Friday, March 25. JV game begins the at 4:30. Varsity plays at 7:00 pm. Help support the Gladiators to victory.
