When I am called to duty, God wherever flames may rage,
give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age.
Help me to embrace a little child before it’s too late,
or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout,
and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,
to guard my neighbor and protect his property.
And if according to your will I have to lose my life,
bless with your protecting hand my loving family from strife.
On September 11, the local firefighters, city employees, police, Murrie Wainscott and Mayor Jackson gathered and remembered the fallen of the twin towers. This is the 8th anniversary of the tragedy.
The bell in front of the fire station was tolled 5 times in three segments, signifying a lost life. Chief Don Chambers reminded everyone to remember the families of the ones that were lost and the first responders who went in later and have health problems because of it.
The Firefighter’s Prayer was recited with a moment of silence and the ceremony was closed in prayer.
Remember our fallen brothers.
