Freshmen Bianca Evans and SaKendra Norwood placed third in the District UIL Cross-X Debate contest in Itasca on Feb. 12. This was the first time to compete in this event.
According to sponsor, Sharan Farmer, "They scored 21 to Itasca’s 25 in the first round and picked up the pace during the second round scoring 22 to Itasca’s 24, only being edged out by a small margin.
In December, the girls attended a UIL Debate Clinic at Baylor University in Waco on this year’s topic: ‘Substantially Increasing Alternative Energy Incentives in the United States’. Here they gained valuable insight and information on not only the topic, but the process of Cross-X Debate."
The two plan to compete next year in fall invitational tournaments to help prepare for the spring meet.
