On Saturday, the First United Methodist Church of Italy hosted a Lord’s Acre sale. There were carnival games and prizes, Sponge Bob bounce house, hot dogs and fresh popcorn, a BBQ dinner and an auction.
With careful planning, the Lord’s Acre committee chose a kid’s carnival, barbecue and an auction to raise funds for the church. Kids stepped up to the counter and threw beanie bags at the bottles. If they knocked it over, prize tickets were won. Game after game was introduced. Pick a duck, lift a bottle with a string, washers, take a picture, whack-a-car was even in place — five hits for $1. And after the kids won all the prize tickets they could hold, the prize counter was full of fun items to “purchase”. Children came from all around to participate. It was a big afternoon and lots of fun was accomplished.
Barbecue made by W.O. Harris was next. Hot, steaming brisket with yummy, homemade potato salad and beans with assorted sweet desserts and a big glass of ice tea. If someone purchased a plate, their name automatically went into the hopper for a raffle prize.
Musical entertainment was provided by Jerod Casey. Old friends and new friends ate supper and enjoyed each other’s company as they provided donations to help First United Methodist Church of Italy.
The big ending to a wonderful day was the auction, hosted by Pee Wee Carter. Many donated items raised money for the church. A three-week-old Red Angus cross calf, themed baskets, homemade quilts, tickets to the Symphony, Air Hog game tickets, an autographed Maverick pennant, bicycles, a Brighton purse and so much more. Everything was purchased and money was raised.
But there is one more fundraiser event before the end of the year. The Belk’s Charity Sale is November 15 from 6 a.m.-10 a.m. at any Belk location. To participate in this exclusive shopping spree, you must have a special ticket worth $5. Not only will you be able to shop and receive up to 50% discounts on name brand merchandise, you will receive $5 off your total purchase. In other words, you receive back the money you put into it. Your name will also be placed in a drawing for a $1000 Belk shopping spree. To purchase tickets, contact any Italy Methodist member or Rev. Beverly Hamilton at revbev at aggienetwork dot com or call 972-483-6335.
The church would like to extend their warmest thanks to everyone that has participated in events and continue to support their endeavors.
