Short bios of the Italy Police Department employees are included here. These bios were written by each member of the Italy PD in hopes of letting the community know a little more about them.
We are here to walk hand in hand with cancer patients and their families as they fight this dreaded disease. We offer support meetings and practical help such as rides to treatments, meals during recovery times, and spiritual care.

The Lady Gladiator Softball team has high expectations for 2015 and got their season started off with a bang against visiting Red Oak during a scrimmage.

What a game, what a team and what a special moment it was for the Lady Gladiators Tuesday night after a buzzer-beating running layup by Kortnei Johnson completed a 64-62 comeback effort for Italy who got more than they bargained for from rival Frost.

The Lady Gladiators play near purr-fect on the road to blowout the Itasca Wampus Cats 71-21 for a district win.
Lady Gladiator softball supporters will be serving up some goodies in the foyer during tonight’s junior high basketball games in the dome starting at 5:00pm. There will be hot and fresh homemade soups, four different kinds. From taco soup to potato soup and two others so there is sure to be one to fit your tastebuds. In addition to the delicious soup, the Lady Gladiator softball staff will be cooking hot and fresh grill cheese sandwiches. And if this isn’t enough, there will be Doris Mitchell’s famous Rice Krispie treats too! Come and get it!
Youth for Human Rights provides educators with curriculum covering the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Recently two Italy 8th grade students in Mr. Guidry’s class, Wesley Helms and Mikey South, completed the curriculum and received certificates for their accomplishments.
The 8th grade science class had the opportunity to link up with the International Space Station last week. The students were able to send photo requests during certain orbits to the astronauts. The students were studying weather so they were using a real time weather map while pin-pointing coordinates on the globe and requesting a photo from the ISS of the location. The students had a total of 250 photos taken.
Congratulations to the Italy Athletic Association (IYAA) C-team players and cheerleaders who were presented their 2014 Superbowl Championship hoodies on Monday by City of Italy’s Mayor James Hobbs under the downtown pavillion.
The Italy ISD Building Committee will meet on Monday, February 2, 2015, in the Italy High School library. The meeting is open to the general public. Committee members will be discussing future renovations and possible new construction projects for Italy schools.

The Heart of Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes announced has selected senior Gladiator football player Kyle Fortenberry to participate in their 7th Annual 2015 All-Star Victory Bowl to be held at Waco ISD Stadium on June 13. KICK OFF will be at 6:30 p.m.
Relay For Life of Central Ellis County has set a date for their 1st Annual Craft Fair. Booth spaces are limited so register as soon as you can.
Judy Turk, age 68, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Ennis. She was born October 11, 1946 in Waxahachie to W.A. and Maggie Lou (Warren) Hyles. Judy graduated from Italy High School in 1966. She worked at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro for over 20 years, where she was the activity director. Her work was her calling and she loved to help take care of people. She was like a mother to everyone she took care of.
The Italy Lady Gladiators (21-7, 3-0) improve their district mark to 3-0 after pulling away from the visiting Dallas Gateway Charter Academy Lady Gators in the second-half.
Both the Italy JV Gladiators and Lady Gladiators played well during their Italy hosted basketball tournament this past weekend with the JV Lady Gladiators winning the tournament championship in the girls bracket.

The upcoming local elections are scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2015. There will be two school board seats, two city council seats along with the mayor up for election this spring.

Paula Harris, age 85, of Italy, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab. She was born April 21, 1929 in Iredell, Texas to William L. and Abby (Russell) Morgan. Paula graduated from Italy High School in 1947 and worked for the post office for 25 years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church and served as an Elder at the Park Presbyterian Church in Italy where she enjoyed serving the church. She loved to sew and cook, specializing in fried chicken and chocolate pie. Paula was a loving mother and grandmother.

Italy’s JV Gladiators survive a physical test against Frost and exit the wooden tundra with a well deserved win. This one was for “Big Money B.”
School Board appreciation was celebrated at the Italy ISD School board meeting Tuesday, January 20, 2015. The Stafford elementary student council and the High School presented gifts to the school board for their hard work and dedication.

Italy ISD will host the Carter Blood Center’s Mobile Blood Drive on Monday, January 26, 2015. The mobile donation center will be set up from 10am to 3pm in the parking lot in front of the Italy High School Dome-nasium.
Unselfish play catapulted the Lady Gladiators to 2-0 in district play after an impressive combination of power, hustle and teamwork proved to much for the Frost Lady Polar Bears.
The effort was there by the Gladiators but the Frost Polar Bears found a way to get the win despite a never give up attitude on display by Italy.
The Lady Gladiators defeat rival Itasca with ease inside the Coliseum to begin district play 1-0.

Nina Jo Groark (nee Hoover), 79, of Sacramento, California died at home on January 18, 2015 of cancer. Nina was born on November 26, 1935 in Italy, Texas and graduated from Italy High School in 1954.

The Italy Lady Gladiator basketball team has earned a spot in the 2A basketball rankings in two polls for the week of January 19, 2015. The Lady Gladiators hold the #15 spot in the TGCA poll and are also ranked #21 in the TABC poll. The Lady Gladiators are currently 20-7 for the season and are in 1st place in district 12-2A with a 2-0 record.
This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The Relay For Life of Central Ellis County will be held on May 30, 2015 at the Waxahachie Sports Complex from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. All Ellis County residents are invited and encouraged to attend.
The 3rd and 4th grade girls IYAA basketball team played in Hillsboro this past Saturday morning. After a long game, and a very impressive 4th quarter, they lost 14 – 6.
In a called meeting Tuesday night, the Italy City Council addressed issues of employee spending. Mayor Pro Tem, Rodney Guthrie led the meeting in the absence of the Mayor.
On Friday, January 23, while the Gladiators and Lady Gladiators take on the Gateway Gators on the hardwood inside the Gladiator Dome, the Lady Gladiator Softball players and their parents will be serving up burgers with all the fixings in the Italy High School Cafeteria.
The Italy City Council will have a called meeting tonight, Tuesday, January 20, 2015. The meeting will be called to order at 6:00pm in the Italy Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy.
Once again Trinity Nursing & Rehabilitation (Trinity Mission) is reaching out to the community. This time it is by inviting anyone in the community over the age of sixty to come play Bingo for free.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have two meetings on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. The first meeting, a called meeting, will begin at 6:00pm. Followed by their regular monthly meeting at 7:00pm. Both meetings will be held in the Italy High School cafeteria at 300 S. College Street, Italy. Both agendas are included here.
The Italy School Board along with Architects Rabe + Partners invited the community to come down and discuss the master improvement plan for both Stafford and high school campuses.
