The Tree of Memories at Trinity Mission was held last Thursday evening to honor and recognize the residents that passed away this year. Family members of loved ones that passed away this year were invited to come and share memories about their loved ones and put an angel on the ‘Tree of Memories’ in their name.
While Santa is making a list and checking it twice, there are visions of softballs, cleats and line drives dancing around in the heads of the Lady Gladiator softball team. Practices will start in mid-January and the girls are ready to get the season started.

There were many medal winners from Stafford Elementary in the recent UIL competition. The competition was tough but Stafford’s students stood their ground and won the prize.

Stafford Elementary first and second graders brought Christmas cheer to the residents of Trinity Mission on Tuesday morning. It was also pajama day at Stafford Elementary so all these beautiful students were singing Christmas songs in their pajamas. It made you think it was Christmas morning and everyone was up early to see what Santa left under the tree!
Stafford PTO had their annual Christmas Store fundraiser last week. It was a wonderful way to raise money for the students and teach them about giving at the same time. Christmas time is all about giving and Stafford Elementary is all about teaching their students about giving.

The Italy High School and Junior High School cheerleaders are sponsoring a Christmas movie night at the old gym this Saturday, December 21st. Movies, chili dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate and a bounce house will all be a part of the fun that will begin at 5:30pm.
On Thursday December 12, junior and senior physics and anatomy students at IHS presented their science projects – first to the judges, and then to the public. Each project remained anonymous as the judges (Erica Miller, Marilyn Seidlitz, and Maggie Westrick) carefully studied each one. The students had imaginatively displayed their experiments, with colorful posters, props/materials, and research explaining their hypotheses and conclusions.
As you walked into Trinity Mission Thursday evening you were greeted with smiling residents, family members and friends. Not to mention all the beautiful Christmas trees and decorations making the spirit bright.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, December 19, 2013. Meeting time is slated for 5:00pm and will be held in the Italy High School cafeteria.
The Lady Gladiators overcome adversity and pull together to win 2-out of-3 games during the Hubbard hosted basketball tournament and take 3rd place. Tara Wallis was selected to the all-tournament team.

In an effort to increase the safety of our community, Italy ISD will host an Assistant United States District Attorney presentation to address Internet Safety on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. On September 14th, 2013 students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School-125 W. Elm Street-Hillsboro, Texas tested for new belts. After the grading Master Charles Kight-Chief Instructor of the school selected students he felt had made the most improvement since the last grading.
Italy’s Policemen and Firemen will be walking the parade route during the annual Italy Christmas Parade with boot in hand asking for donations to “fill the boot” for the “Shop with a Hero” program. Your donations will help make Christmas brighter for several Stafford Elementary children.

I don’t know a child that is not excited about Christmas and all that goes with it.They can’t wait to get up Christmas morning and see what Santa has left under the tree. But not all children are lucky enough to have something waiting for them under the tree. Spirits are running high at Milford High School after beating New Castle in the six man semi-finals football game with a 66 – 58 win! They are ready for Saturday when they will play in the six man state championship game against Grandfalls Royalty at 3:00 PM at the AT&T stadium in Arlington.
Chris Baker started his position as director of marketing for Trinity Mission May of 2009. His last day was January 7th, 2011 when he decided to take an administrative position at an assisted living facility in Forth Worth. Now he is back at Trinity Mission as the director of marketing again with a very happy heart.
Italy Junior High’s girls’ teams played three games against Blooming Grove on Monday at home, winning two. The outside weather may have been cold but the nets inside the dome were still smoldering Tuesday morning.
Saturday, December 14th the Italy FFA will host a Chili Cook-Off and Man Sale from 5pm to 8pm at the Italy Downtown Pavilion. Entry Deadline for the Chili Cook-off is Friday, December 13 ($20). All proceeds benefit the Italy FFA Chapter.

Titus Women’s Club of Milford members are so very grateful for the great job the first responders did in helping the community when the Chevron pipeline exploded in Milford. So, they decided to show their appreciation by handing out plaques to Bruce Perryman (Mayor of Milford), Mark Jackson (Fire Chief of Milford) and Chief of Police Carlos Phoenix at this month’s City Council Meeting.
The Gladiator and Lady Gladiator varsity basketball squads will travel to Hubbard High School on December 12th, 13th and 14th to participate in the Hubbard Invitational Basketball Tournament. Game one for the Lady G’s will be Thursday at 3:00pm against Waco Rappaport Academy. Game one for the Gladiators will be Thursday at 4:30pm, also against Rappaport.

Beverly Ann Carter, age 77, of Italy, passed away late Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Trinity Mission. She was born May 14, 1936 in Avalon to Laura (Newman) and Tim Williams. Beverly was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Italy for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.

The VFW Toys for Tots will be available again this year for local children. The deadline to apply is December 16, 2013. If a child is on another list such as the Salvation Army or Toy Run, they are not eligible for this program. Information will be verified.

Per Italy High School head boys basketball coach, Brandon Ganske, the basketball tournament in West has been cancelled. The varsity boys team was originally scheduled to participate in West today and tomorrow (December 6 and 7).
Italy HS/JHS band parents and students, due to the possibility of inclement weather, the all-region band auditions scheduled for this weekend have been postponed till next weekend (December 13 and 14).
