The Italy Police Department are putting final plans together for the 2015 National Night Out to be held on Tuesday, October 6th. from 6pm to 9pm This year’s event will be held at the Upchurch Ball Fields where two of the fields will be used for friendly kickball games for ALL ages.

The annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund barbecue dinner will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Italy High School Cafeteria. Cost for the meal is $12 per person. The meal will be catered by Bubba’s of Ennis.

All of the month of September, Central Baptist Church will be pouring wisdom and clarity and love into marriages. There will be a four-week sermon series, Sunday school series, and evening activity series. I beg you all to be involved in all of the events and to invite people to come to church for this series. Iva Ruth Gillespie, age 91, of Waxahachie, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015 at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Waxahachie, Texas. She was born May 23, 1924 to Walter Jordan and Janie (Davis) Jordan in Files Valley, Texas. She worked as Assistant Chief Operator for the telephone company for over 30 years. She was a 60 year member of the Rebekah Lodge # 381 in Waxahachie.

When Doris Mitchell started working for Oma’s Jiffy Burger in Waxahachie many years ago, she had no idea that she would be grilling burgers and feeding people for 32 more years. But that is exactly what happened. Doris is the owner of the Uptown Café in downtown Italy and will serve her customers for the last time on September 12, 2015. The building she rented has sold so she is closing her doors that day.
Evie Marie Herrin Cohagan, age 87, went to be with the Lord, Monday, August 31, 2015 at Settlers Ridge Nursing Home in Celina, Texas.

Margaret Mary Smotherman, age 93, passed away on August 21, 2015 in Houston, Texas, at Seven Acres Nursing Home. She was born on November 20, 1921 in Upper Lambourn, Berkshire, England, to Simon and Mary Elizabeth Fraser. During World War II she met and married Staff Sergeant Ben Edwin Hill, Jr., United States Army Air Force on July 8, 1943.

Academic Achievement Awards were awarded at the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School at the June grading. For the past 19 years the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W. Elm Hillsboro, Texas has awarded many students, who are excelled in both martial arts as well as academics with a 3 and 4 foot trophy.

Back by popular demand, Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy is hosting Art Classes at the Ranch with professional artist and certified teacher Anne Weary. Classes begin September 8 from 5:30 to 6:45 on Tuesdays. Art Classes are four for $60. The class will cover beginning painting and drawing of animals and still life using a variety of mediums.

Not too long ago the entire community banded together to help purchase a camera for Barry Byers. A BBQ dinner was served at the infamously famous Uptown Cafe and all monies raised at that dinner went to purchase a quality camera for Barry. A little over a week ago this camera was stolen from Barry’s truck.
